Beginning Fiddlers Like Fiddle Tab

Learning fiddle tab is intuitive and easy. I have seen five-year-old's learn it in five minutes. Let's approach this by looking at 1. what fiddle tab is, 2. how it's unlike standard musical notation, and 3. why it is the best way for beginning fiddle students to get started. You have seen standard musical notation. The familiar dot-shaped notes on or between the five lines are often used for decoration. These symbols stand for exact pitches of musical notes, even if the decoration doesn't make a melody. You can't learn how to play any musical instrument just from standard musical notation. Each musical instrument has its own rules about how to use it. Fiddle tab tells you what string to play and what finger to use. It’s so easy to learn. it's practically intuitive. A fiddle tab has lines and spaces, but don't confuse it with a musical staff. It gives entirely different information. Each space of the staff represents a string. The top space represents the E-string, the next one, the A-string, the third space the D-string and the bottom space, the G-string. Placed your fiddle on its side, with the neck to the left of the body. The strings are in exactly the same relationship. When you pick up your fiddle, with your left hand under the neck, you would be in position to finger the strings the normal way. Fiddle tab is intuitive, easy and fun to use. That's why it's the best choice for beginning fiddlers.
